Here’s a quick little recap of our Spring Fling SERIALS Cycle 16. It was a doozy: full of upsets, continuing favorites, and exciting new storylines!

Last cycle’s double pilot upset was repeated in the first week as Baby, It’s You by Sarah Jae Leiber and Cody Hom’s Double Double displaced The Good, The Bad and the Undead and Flared Base, both on their episode 2. We were sad to see Kenjiro Lee’s zombie-infused Western reinterred and Ben Schrager’s medical drama by way of putting things up your rectum discharged but happy as always to have pilots come back! This Cycle also saw the light of Paige Esterly’s Everything I Know I Learned from The Simpsons pilot episode burn intensely but briefly across the SERIALS firmament only to disappear beyond the horizon… or Burbank, CA. Gone but not forgotten!

Baby, It’s You proved to have staying power and will continue into next Cycle following the mad adventures of a group of Beatles super-fans as they try to track down those Lovable Lads from Liverpool. Evelyn, a 1960s coed has particular designs on Paul: she needs him to get her pregnant. To be fair, he did tell her he was the only one who could do it–in song–when he visited her in a dream in her dorm room!

Double Double, the tale of three witchy sisters banding together to take over the family potion business, itself went down after just two episodes. Man, that second episode is so hard to land! In its place and continuing into next Cycle is current holder of the very-long-titled-Serial award: chiara and lauren take a trip to friendship island (and it’s gonna be sooo great) by SERIALS newcomer Jack Ventimilia. Our heroines are on a journey to test their bond– on national television, of course!

The Adventures of Bungo Calamity: Apocalypse Clown by A.J. Ditty continued its gut-busting run with episode 4 & 5 which saw our wily swashbuckling clowns face off against cannibals, sirens, ex-girlfriends, mutant meth-addicted flying pig-men and Klops Corps Founder/CEO Sydon Klops. They even visited Florida…erm, I mean, Mime Country. We’ll follow them into our July-August Cycle as they track down a lost soul in Hell… Michigan… Hell, MI. Will Bungo ever make it home?
